In this area, you’ll begin to encounter enemies called Hoppers. Pay the 112 Geo for the Kingdom’s Edge area map, then continue down the small platforms until you reach the bottom of the giant chasm, then head right into the next area. You should also clearly hear the tell-tale humming of our old friend, Cornifer. Fall to the left and slide down the wall and you’ll shortly stop on top of a pipe, jutting out of the side of the cliff face. Walk to the edge of the platform and drop down. Once you reach the end of the cavern, take the exit on the right side and you’ll emerge in Kingdom’s Edge. Hop down into the water and wade right and you’ll go through a hidden passageway into a cavern with dive-bombing Belflys. Take a right and you’ll find a broken Bench and a flooded Stagway station. They like to spew orange acid that will harm you. It's guarded by two Lesser Mawleks, which you'll need to defeat to get past. This is also due west from the main entrance into the Ancient Basin from the north. You'll need to head up to the northwest portion of the area, west of the tram station. With your newly-honed weapon, return to the King’s Station Stagway, take the exit left of the Bench, then drop down to the bottom floor. One Pale Ore can be found in the Ancient Basin.

Use the Ancient Basin Pale Ore and 800 Geo and he’ll upgrade your Sharpened Nail to the Channelled Nail. I think this might be the reason our vessel is special, it got to witness the hollow knight and pale king. At the end, the void drags him back to unify itself with it. Once you arrive, descend through the city and back to the Nailsmith. I think the knight is trying to remember his past and how he tried to escape the abyss, but cant, thus having to resort to distorting his memories, the way into the abyss still being broken and him still having his abilities.
