Then, when I move the Thunderbird directory profile over to my mac and import using iMail, I get a problem: most of the emails are imported but not all. I imported the Outlook mailboxes and I verified that the imported mailboxes have the correct number of emails each.

As I had mentioned, I keep getting an error on my PC with it reading my data - "error preparing your information for transfer." That's why I'm doing things manually. Setup Assistant/Migration Assistant is not working. Can anyone direct me to a best/fool-proof approach to doing this? As long as I have clear instructions, I don't have any problem at all with manually copying files - I just want to make sure it gets done right.

My google searches have given me various contradictory and often not 100% effective solutions. Since I'm not using Outlook for Mac, I assume it's more complicated than that. What is the best way for me to migrate this data to my iMac, assuming that I am using the default mail/calendar/contact/note programs (I will NOT be using Outlook for Mac)? In the past, all I had to do to migrate from one pc to another was to simply find and copy over the *.pst files from one Outlook directory to another. I have Outlook 2002, which contains several years of e-mail, calendar entries, contacts, and notes. Then, all I really need help with is migrating the data from Outlook. I should be able to migrate that data manually.

So now it occurs to me - I have most of my data on an external hard drive anyway, and I read articles talking about how to keep the playlist/ratings/album art/other metadata intact by making sure to copy and rename the iTunes library files. Hopefully you will find one of the above suggestions useful.I just purchased a 2012 iMac and my attempts to transfer data from my Windows Vista PC to the Mac using Setup Assistant have totally failed - I keep getting the "error preparing your information for transfer" message with no indication of what is going on and no help from the various google searches I did.

When I switched from PC to Mac, I was using MS-Outlook in Windows and therefore my conversion was from Outlook to MBOX and then import into Mac Mail, this software worked very well for that and it was quite intuitive. You then need to convert them from PST to MBOX, you can do that using this:

Once your files are converted into PST format they can be read by MS-Outlook directly. One more option (there are likely more…….) convert your DBX files to PST, please see here: Outlook Express DBX files can be imported into Windows Live Mail, but you then need to import the Windows Live Mail EML files into a third party mail client (Thunderbird) before exporting from Thunderbird into standard MBOX format, procedure here: I have no experience with this software, so I cannot comment on it’s efficacy.Ī totally FREE option, here: (this seem’s very straightforward without the need for any other intermediary software - I would try this first)ĭownload DbxConv, here: (do not use the link in the article it re-directs you)Īnother FREE option, but requires several steps to complete.

Qualifier: There is one way to convert directly, but, it is going to cost you. I did a search on the web and found a few different options, but it seem’s in all cases you are going to need access to a Windows system to complete this. Outlook Express files could not even be directly read by Outlook, they needed to be imported first. There is no direct way to import Outlook Express DBX files into Mac Mail, some form of conversion process is required.
