Amok episodes of this kind normally end with the attacker being killed by bystanders or committing suicide, eliciting theories that amok may be a form of intentional suicide in cultures where suicide is heavily stigmatized. Amok typically takes place in a well-populated or crowded area. In a typical case of running amok, an individual (almost always male), having shown no previous sign of anger or any inclination to violence, will acquire a weapon (traditionally a sword or dagger, but possibly any of a variety of weapons) and in a sudden frenzy, will attempt to kill or seriously injure anyone he encounters and himself. Īlthough commonly used in a colloquial and less violent sense, the phrase is particularly associated with a specific sociopathic culture-bound syndrome in the cultures of Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei. As a result of the belief, those in Malay culture tolerated amok and dealt with the after-effects with no ill will towards the assailant. They believed that amok was caused by the hantu belian, which was an evil tiger spirit that entered one's body and caused the heinous act. According to Malaysian and Indonesian cultures, amok was rooted in a deep spiritual belief.
Tip 2: changing facilities are the bar minimum with most people getting a very cold hosing down and then changing beside their car. Mine were a last minute buy but sure bright yellow Marigolds are kind of a fashion statement!
Tip 1: ok so they look all sorts of dainty, but to keep your hands warm, stick a pair of rubber gloves over your woolly gloves to keep them dry. The event happens twice a year in March and September and you can register right here!and I can’t wait for the next one. There were people of all age groups competing and the ladies were certainly giving the gents a run for their money in terms of ability. I’d encourage anyone to give this a bash. RUN A MUCK REGISTRATION
You can run solo or run as a team and your registration includes a lovely Runamuck mug and your number and timing chip. It’s a whole body workout, it’s a bit of a challenge and you feel damn proud afterwards for doing it. It was my first time doing anything other than running in straight line around a regular running course and I have to say I loved it.

It reminded me just how care free life can be when you get back to nature as such. There is just something so fun about splashing about like a child and climbing over things. Within minutes of starting out sure I was soaking wet and covered in muck and I had a massive smile on my face. Myself and my buddy opted for the 5k track, although you can do 10k, which is essentially just two laps of it.
